I plan EVENTS and DO live media making, mostly for other media-makers.

I have 8 years of experience in producing events with attendance ranging from 100 to 200,000 people, specializing in planning for conferences, conventions, and convening for media makers that feature high-level speakers, musicians, and artists.

Events I have organized, planned, supported or otherwise:

The People's Climate March 2017 - April 29th, 2017, 200,000+ students, workers, faith communities, Indigenous Nations, community organizations, and environmental groups joined together in a beautiful, hopeful moment. I was the Digital Arts Producer for the Uptown Art House, the pop-up arts space established to support the march, and it's Circles of Resistance program. My collective, The Indian Problem, was featured in The Intercept for the art our members were going hard on.

Standing Rock 2016 - I lived in a yurt at Oceti Sakowin Camp during the vast majority of the 9 month #NoDAPL frontline conflict in North Dakota doing communications and media work in support of the movement.

Democracy Spring 2016 - In the lead up to the 2016 Democratic National Convention Democracy Spring issued four demands to the Democratic National Committee. The demands were that the party commit, within the first 100 days of a new Congress & presidential administration, to reverse Citizens United v. FEC, act to ensure publicly funded elections, and restore the Voting Rights Act. The fourth demand, reflecting that the first three looked forward to January 2017, was that the Democratic Party immediately abolish the superdelegate system as a show of good faith. Democracy Spring promised civil disobedience outside the convention if the demands were not met..." and that's what happened. I was the communications director and anti-oppression training coordinator.

"The first day of sit-ins outside the Democratic National Convention resulted in more than 50 arrests.[25] On the third day of the convention Democracy Spring staged another sit-in, this time inside the convention perimeter, by "diverting and distracting" police.[26] This second action resulted in dozens more arrests."

The People's Summit 2016 - "Held in June 2016, the first People's Summit was set against the backdrop of the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, 2016. The conference was led by National Nurses United and The People for Bernie Sanders. Other groups involved in organizing the conference included Democratic Socialists of AmericaFood & Water WatchOur Revolution (previously the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, 2016), People Demanding Action,[1] People's Action,[2] Progressive Democrats of America, Reclaim Chicago,[3] United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of AmericaUnited Students Against Sweatshops, Million Hoodies,[4] and African-Americans for Bernie Sanders." I coordinated the scholarship program as part of my role as National Engagement Director with the People for Bernie Sanders.

The Society for Environmental Journalists 2015 - The Society of Environmental Journalists brings est. 700 people together and offers unique educational programs and services, primarily for professional journalists, educators and students, including annual and regional conferences, tours, meet-ups and training events.

The Table: Great Roads to Great Chefs series 2014 - At the historic Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO, was a fundraiser for flood relief and a culinary series featuring celebrity chefs from the Rocky Mountain front range. Estes Park was hit first by the 1,000 year flood of 2013 and one of the town's business owners, who relies almost exclusively on tourism just like the town, hosted this series and donated thousands of desperately needed dollars to the town's flood relief coffers with it's proceeds. Here are some of the images and videos I was (deliciously) happy to produce for The Stanley over the course of weeks in early 2014.

Chefs featured in the series:

  • Top Chef Winner Chef Hosea Rosenburg

  • Chef Ian Kleinman

  • Chef Geoff Rhyne

  • Chef Jeff Osaka

  • Chef Alec Schuler

  • Chefs Drew Hardin and Orlando Benavidez

  • Chef Ryan Leinonen

  • Chef Mark Metzger

  • Chef James Mazzio

  • Chef Chad Scothorn

  • Chef Ari Kolender

  • Chefs Caleb shriver and Phillip Perrow

Netroots Nation 2012-2015 - Annually Netroots Nation brings est. 3000 bloggers, newsmakers, social justice advocates, labor and organizational leaders, grassroots organizers and online activists. During my time there I worked on things like the Netroots Music Project, a 10 panel speaker series focused at the intersection of arts and activism, a concert, a mural project with Colibri Center for Human Rights and JustSeeds Artist Co-operative which was later named amongst the Top 10 in Phoenix in 2015, and 3 days of arts performances. Well known musicians and artists like Immortal Technique, Jasiri X, The Chapin Sisters, Irene Diaz, Gan Golan, Jess X Chen, were alongside some of the most fearless activists of our time. (Full transparency: Netroots was the title sponsor of The PPL, which can be seen below.)

The Palm Springs Photo Festival 2013-2014 - PSPF annually brings 300-500 photographers to the desert and one of the most important and labor intensive portions of the week-long event each year are the workshops, which I was assistant organizer of. Imagine this: 14 workshops, roughly 200 attendees going every which way: The Salton Sea on location shoot, underwater photography at the pool, to the photo studio for a lighting session, getting lunch for everyone and transportation to all of these places.  High-level workshop teachers featured in my work: celebrity portrait-makers Frank Ockenfels III and Nels Israelson, war photographer Stanley Greene, fine art photographers Roger Ballen, Andy Katz, Ralph Gibson, and Ian Ruhter.

The PPL 2012 - I'm one of the three founders of  The PPL, where 1800 media makers and journalists found services like interview-ready rooms, work space, panel and event programming, resources like reliable, fast wifi and each other during the 2012 Democratic National Convention. This project was explicitly multi-partisan in audiences, panel speakers, institution-credentialed journalists and freelance citizen media.

TEDx, TEDx, TEDx, too! 2010-2013 - From founding steering committee to coach to speaker, I've done a bit of everything with the TEDx platform. This work is also parallel to the 5 BarcampCharlotte unconferences I organized around.

Events are my favorite. Let's talk!
